ICR Studio and ehouse are proud to announce the launch of the new product Black Clad.

Black Clad, also known as Shou Sugi Ban, is a traditional method of charring cladding that preserves and emphasizes the beautiful grain of the timber. Black Clad supplies this timber to order for NZ building projects.

Shou Sugi Ban is a practice started in Japan in the 1700’s which was traditionally used to preserve the wood by charring it. This process is an environmentally friendly way to preserve the timber which also makes it fire resistant. Chemical preservatives, paints and retardants are unnecessary.

Realising that no other company supplied this kind of product in New Zealand Phil decided to launch the very first Shou Sugi Ban cladding in New Zealand.
