In July 2023 a fire engulfed the Burger King tenancy and Z service station convenience store in Takanini. The Burger King building was extensively damaged and required demolition due to the instability of the structure. The Z Convenience Store suffered minor structural damage, however the store fitout was extensively damaged. All safety systems operated perfectly and the fuel storage systems were isolated and contained.

ICR Studio were given the task of driving the design and documentation for the rebuild of Burger King and the refit of the Z service station convenience store. It all sounds relatively straight forward, however there are many moving parts and the design process required the integration of many specialist consultants and stakeholders due to the two tenants on site. ICR Studio worked alongside both Z Energy, for the service station convenience store, and Tahua Group for the Burger King building and fitout. Both stakeholders took the opportunity to implement their latest store/restaurant configurations which required extensive consultation with all specialists.
